FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions and answers:

Where are In-person Sessions Held?

My office is located in the River Heights neighbourhood in Winnipeg.  Appointments are available Wednesday evening, Thursday afternoon/evening, and Sunday morning/afternoon.

What Can I Expect in The First Session?

I like to think of our first appointment as a 'Soft Start' session where we get to know each other.

In this session, we take our time and discuss the collaborative nature of therapeutic work, informed consent, limits to confidentiality, your history/background, and your hopes for what will be different after our time working together.

There are no forms to complete in advance of your first appointment.

Do You Do Online, Phone or Distance Counselling?

Yes! If you live in BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, or the three northern territories I can be your counsellor. Flexible scheduling options are available.

Video sessions are available through secure programs with end-to-end encryption to protect your privacy. Phone sessions are an option for those without access to a secure network.

What are Your Fees/ Investment?

Individual Therapy: $135 per standard 55-minute session.

Sliding Scale: If you are unable to afford the investment listed above, please contact me and we can discuss rate that works for you.

Workshops: Determined on a per-event basis.

Payment can be made by e-transfer or credit card and a receipt is provided.

Are You Covered By My Extended Health Insurance?

Yes, my services are covered by many private insurance providers, such as Blue Cross. Please be sure to check with your provider regarding your specific coverage. I’ll provide you with an itemized receipt that you can submit for reimbursement.

What’s Your Cancellation Policy?

Your session times are reserved exclusively for you and are not available to others unless you cancel. Therefore, 24 hours notice is required, otherwise the full session fee will be charged.

How is Counselling Different Than Getting Support From Friends and Family?

Working with a mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way.

In therapy, I provide a judgement-free space and support to help you learn to listen to your own inner wisdom. My role is to support you in developing new coping techniques and in becoming open to new perspectives.

My training includes learning the science behind the processes of change, and supervised practice supporting clients to meet the goals they have set for themselves.

Therapy is also completely confidential (except for limitations we’ll discuss at the start).

Knowing that you can be totally transparent about your thoughts and feelings provides a sense of safety that isn’t always available when we speak to family or friends.

How Long Does Therapy Last and How Often Do I Need to Come?

How long therapy lasts depends on each person's unique situation, needs, and goals.

Many clients begin on a weekly basis while we are getting to know one another. In our early sessions, we’ll work together to create a personalized treatment plan. Then, generally, clients move to bi-weekly sessions.

Ultimately, we’ll decide frequency together based on your needs and specific situation.
